Palisades Bench shares its northern and northeastern borders with the Targhee National Forest, a 1.8 million acre expanse of protected wildlife reserves. The Targhee National Forest lies almost entirely within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, a 20 million acre wilderness and the largest remaining block of relatively undisturbed plant and animal habitat in the lower 48 states.
A trailhead to the Caribou-Targhee National Forest trail system is located within steps of Palisades Bench.
